Ghost in the Shell

Ghost in the Shell is an anime action film that is cult produced by Mamoru Oshii based on the manga of the same title written by Masamune Shirow. The film is set in the future of dystopian technology and follows the tale of Motoko Kusanagi, a public security officer from Section 9 assigned to track an unidentified ghost hacker identified as the “Puppet Master”. Motoko’s pursuit of her new mission will lead her to Project 2501, which was made by corrupt Section 6. This is what led to the creation of the antagonist. It is considered to be a benchmark for science fiction films and is hence rightfully tagged as one of best action-oriented films.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

The story follows D, a bounty hunter contracted to bring back Charlotte the girl who was abducted by Meier Link who is a noble vampire. The film is an adaptation of the novel Demon Deathchase, the third in Hideyuki Kikuchi’s Vampire Hunter D series. Ninja Scroll

The 1993 release of the animated Japanese action film was acclaimed. Ninja Scroll depicts the events of a bloody fight that takes place in feudal Japan that pits a ninja and the eight demons of Kimon. Yoshiaki Kawajiri wrote and directed the film. The film is well-known due to its narrative structure, which follows the adventures of Koichi Yamadera (a ninja) who is inspired by Yagyu J.M. Mitchellsuyoshi the legendary Japanese folk hero.

Princess Mononoke

Princess Mononoke is an action-oriented anime film that is packed with plenty of action. Set in the late Muromachi period The story is about Ashitaka, a young boy, who was the final prince of the Emishi tribe who wants to restore peace between forest spirits and humans, that eat the forest’s treasures. Princess Mononoke is considered to be one of the most loved action-movie films. It gradually became the highest grossing film ever till the release of Titanic later in the same year.

Cowboy Bebop – The Movie

The name Cowboy Bebop is a well-known anime series that ran from 1998-1999. It ran for 26 seasons and won millions of hearts. The film is based on the same plot between episode 22 and 23 Cowboy Bebop – The Movie follows the story of the space bounty hunter crew aboard the spaceship Bebop, assigned to take down a chemical terrorist that is trying to devastate the planet Mars by introducing an unidentified pathogen. Cowboy Bebop was directed by Shinichiro Watanabe and produced by Sun Studios. It is a classic action anime movie.

Street Fighter II – The Animated Movie

Imagine if you could turn video games into a movie. The makers of this film have done this through the creation of a film based on the popular fighting game series of the identical name. Kenichi Imai wrote the script and Gisaburo Suugii directed the film. It tells the story of Ryu who is a street fighter who is fighting one of the criminal lords, Bison, who is bent to defeat the greatest fighters around the globe. The film has been a massive success and serves as the inspiration behind Van Damme’s live-action film.


It was developed by “Ghost in the Shell” fame, Masamune Shirow, Appleseed is a computer-animated science fiction action movie that has captivating animation. Deunan Kute is an ex-cyborg who decides to reconcile with her partner, a cyborg named Masamune Schirow in the post-apocalyptic Utopian town dubbed “Olympus”. The town’s inhabitants are comprised of Bioroids (genetically modified duplicates) and humans in the same ratios. The artificial Bioroids that don’t have no emotions, such as fear or anger they were developed with the goal of balancing the human population and bring peace. But certain organizations are against them and would like to upset the balance and peace once more. Appleseed and its sequel Appleseed Ex Machina Ex Machina are an absolute must-see for all those, who love action, science fiction and epic soundtracks.

Sword of the Stranger

Masahiro Buto directs Sword of the Stranger and is produced by Bones. This studio also produced Cowboy Bebop – The Movie. The story follows Kotaro the young boy, and his dog, as they encounter Nanashi a retired ronin. They run away from mysterious swordsmen who pursue them with no explanation. In spite of avoiding drawing his sword again, Nanashi is caught between morality and loyalty when he decides to accompany Kotaro to a remote Buddhist temple. My top anime recommendation is Sword of the Stranger. It’s a great film in the genre. Everybody, who likes Samurai and Sword films, amazing soundtracks and stunning animations, will be thrilled by Sword of the Stranger.

Fist of the North Star

The last one on our list, but not the least of them is Fist of the North Star. It’s an adaptation of manga. The story revolves around Kenshiro one of the main characters who sets out to locate his wife Yuria after he is defeated by Shin the former friend of his. The film is directed by Toyoo Yashida, who also directed the very first film of the Vampire Hunter D Series.
